Ignition Sequence cover for issue eleven: a dark industrial control console of switches, dials and indicator lights, with a red readout reading T-5, 4, 3, 2, 1 above the line IGNITION SEQUENCE INITIATED: SLAM, and a caged monitor to the right showing the two of them behind heavy scanlines.

This issue of Ignition Sequence is brought to you in partnership with BC Releases: New Bandcamp Releases in One Playlist

Slam have the countdown on this one, which means Soma Records is in the room too. Arthur Robert is in their five, Disguised are in there with a Sublunar record, and the track at number one has their own name on it.

Ignition Sequence works the same way every time. A guest artist gets handed the countdown, picks five records, and tells you in their own words what each one is for. The picks are theirs and so is every word written about them.

Anyway, commencing countdown…

Ignition Sequence #11: Slam…

Slam in black and white, the two of them sitting on a low stone ledge in front of a wire mesh fence with graffiti behind it. One wears glasses and a dark hooded top, the other a cap and a denim jacket, and both look straight at the camera.

Slam are Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, and they own Soma Records. The pair set the label up in Glasgow in 1991 with Glenn Gibbons and Dave Clarke, who is not the techno DJ of that name.

Soma pressed Daft Punk's 'Da Funk' on vinyl in 1995. Surgeon, Jeff Mills and Funk D'Void all have early records in the catalogue too.

Their own 'Positive Education' went out on the label in 1993. The albums since take in 'Headstates', 'Alien Radio' and 'Human Response', and 'Dark Channel' came in 2025. They have remixed Daft Punk and Underworld, and they run a second label called Paragraph Records.

Pressure is the night they built. It ran monthly at The Arches in Glasgow and now runs at SWG3 as Maximum Pressure, with Return to Mono as their residency at the Sub Club. They have their own show as well, Slam Radio.

Soma marked its 35th year with a run of remix releases. 'Activate' is the Slam track in that series, and it went out on the label in 2023. Luke Slater, Oscar Mulero, Phil Berg and Nastia Reigel have each taken a version for SOMA35.4. Digital is dated 30 October 2026. The vinyl follows on 13 November 2026. The series also carries the label past its 700th record.

They are on Instagram, with the records on SoundCloud and Bandcamp. Soma keeps its own site going too.

Here are Slam's five. Enjoy!

BC Releases: New Bandcamp Releases in One Playlist

Promo graphic for the BC Releases web app: the line Listen to Bandcamp new releases in one playlist set in white on black, beside a screenshot of the app's dark New releases panel showing genre filter chips for techno, dub techno, ambient, experimental, house and idm, and a release card opened out to its track list with running times.

All of your new releases in one place.

Bandcamp sends an email for every new release from the artists and labels you follow, which can be overwhelming…

Bas Dobbelaer built a free web app that pulls those new releases into a single playlist. You can listen through everything that came out without opening one email or tab at a time. Waveforms, BPM, and key are included for every track as well.

Label what's worth buying as you listen, and come back to your picks when you're ready to support the artists.

Your data is saved in your browser: imports, triage choices and listening progress are all stored locally, so there's no account needed.

Number 5: Wala 'Smiling With The Sun'

'Smiling With The Sun' sits on 'SMV018', which Somov Records released in September 2026. Ignez started the Amsterdam label in 2019 and runs it still. Sterac and Justin Berkovi have both had records on it, and Wala was there before with 'SMV012'. Lst.ss picked an Ignez track off the same label when she took this countdown in September 2026.

Slam: "This is an unusual sonic Techno excursion with an almost wistful orchestral flavour."

Somov have it on Bandcamp.

Number 4: Arthur Robert 'Telepathy'

'Telepathy' is on 'MINDSCAPE 001', a various artists record and the first thing Mindscape Audio has put out. VNTM runs the Amsterdam label and its event series, and has had records out on Soma and ARTS. Arthur Robert made 'Particle Accelerator' for The Third Room in 2024. Nobody from outside that label's own crew had been handed a full EP there before.

Slam: "We're big fans of Arthur Robert's craft. This journey is exercised with precision and melodic depth."

Grab yours from Mindscape Audio.

Number 3: Disguised 'Cohle & Hart'

'Cohle & Hart' is on Disguised's 'Carcosa' EP, out on Sublunar since September 2026. Disguised are a German duo and they run a label of their own called Inherit. Sublunar works out of Florence, where Sciahri and Dagdrom founded it in 2017, and Hadone and Bidoben are among the names on it.

The titles across 'Carcosa' are all True Detective references, and Cohle and Hart are the two detectives from its first season.

Slam: "Driving clattered percussion, bleeps and subsonic bass drive this track deep into the core!"

The EP is up at Bandcamp.

Number 2: Marcal 'Smoke From Respawn'

'Smoke From Respawn' opens the 'Four Small Escapes EP', which The Third Room released in September 2026. Marcal is Laerte Marçal, who came up in Goiânia and works out of Porto now. The Third Room runs out of Essen as a label, a studio and an event series, and the same crew are behind Stone Techno Festival.

Slam: "Brazil's Marcal takes us on a deep introspective heads down dance floor journey."

Get the download at Bandcamp.

Number 1: Slam 'Activate' (Phil Berg Remix)

Top of the list is a record with their own name on it, and it is the one Soma built its anniversary around. 'Activate' went out on the label in 2023, and SOMA35.4 hands it to Luke Slater, Oscar Mulero, Nastia Reigel and Phil Berg. This is the Phil Berg one. He works out of Berlin, and his 'Skid Row' turned up in Lst.ss's Waveform Sessions mix for us.

Slam: "Our track Activate gets the remix treatment from one of our favourite producers."

Grab yours over at Beatport now!

That's the five

Thanks to Slam for the five, and for using the top slot to show what Soma is doing with its anniversary rather than saving it for something easier.

The next Ignition Sequence comes from Hoshina Anniversary.
