Ignition Sequence gives one artist five records and their own account of what each one is for. The picks here come from Lst.ss, who gave us an all vinyl Waveform Sessions mix in July 2026 and has come back for this. Her five take in Anetha's Mama Told Ya, ARTS, Clergy and a record that talked her out of digital mixing altogether. All five have Bandcamp links attached.

Anyway, commencing countdown…

Lst.ss is Katja Dennstädt, and the record habit goes back to 1999. She spent the 2000s working as alternative:female, booked through Dekadent Artist Booking, played Tresor in 2009, moved to Berlin in 2011, and settled on the Lst.ss name in 2014.

Since then it has been the closing party at Dave Festival in 2018, on a bill Octave One headlined, INTERZONE in 2019, a residency with Culture_Brl, and sets at Sage Club and Club Ost. Cosmic Shadows open air and a slot on France's Electrochoc Radio have followed.

The vinyl did lapse once. She moved over to digital mixing during the pandemic, and it took one specific record to send her back to the shops. That record is her number five, which tells you how much weight it carries.

On how she picked these, Lst.ss says: "I wanted to show some tracks that are special to me. Not all of them are peak time bangers, but each of them describes a little part of the sound I play, to express myself and my feelings."

Lst.ss: "This track inspired me to buy records again, after switching to digital mixing during corona. It's a super organic sound. It changes drive and mood so often, and so smoothly, that you fall in love immediately.

It's like a fairy tale when you hear it, and I wanted to tell the whole story every time I put it on the turntable. Mixing it is kind of tricky, because he changes the tact a lot of times and his kicks are kind of on the edge. But the energy building up here will push your set onto the next level."

From the 'Dynamo EP', out in May 2025 on ARTS. It was her second record by Klint, and he turns up again in her Waveform Sessions mix with 'Prism'.

Lst.ss: "It was my second EP from this artist, and for me personally one of my biggest finds. His tracks often remind me of my records from after the big minimal hype around 2010. The sound back in the day had a lot of different samples, noise pieces and snips of vocals used as kick or hi-hat samples, and you can find that in his tracks as well.

The first time I heard it I noticed you have some unmatching sounds, if you hear them on their own, but together, my lord, yes. I'm also a really big fan of pumping basslines and stretching sounds in the back. He brings all of that together. You will open your set for more proper techno options after that."

Off 'Clergy 10 Years | Alpha', catalogue CRGX1, out in January 2025 as the first of the ten compilations Clergy ran through the year. Kameliia shares it with Obscure Shape, Hadone, Bailey Ibbs, Uväll and Roll Dann, and Mixmag took the premiere.

Lst.ss: "My perfect opener for a deep, driving set. It reminds me of a soundtrack from a movie in the 80s, or something like that. It has a kind of storytelling to it, and not just because the vocals sound like they are from a movie scene. There is no big drop, no rushed breaks, just a really elegant way of setting a base for the tracks coming after.

Because of that your next track gets elevated even more, and gets the stage it needs. Really nice for podcast sets or radio gigs, where you have no audience and you play more authentic stuff that hypes yourself at that point."

This one opens SMV017, out June 2026 on Somov Records, the label Ignez has run since 2019. It is also the track that closed her Waveform Sessions mix, so she has form for saving it until last.

Lst.ss: "I heard the track for the first time on social media. Instantly I checked if it was released yet. It was, and one day later I bought it. It's a really romantic topic here, as you can imagine from the name of the track. But Ignez puts some vocals on overmastered peaks and scratches.

To be honest, the first time I put that track on my turntable I thought my speaker was broken. But those hard pieces floating against a dreamy melody, and Ignez's voice telling you a love story. I closed my last gig with this one, and had a completely quiet audience for the last 30 seconds, right to the last note. They gave amazing ovations afterwards. Someone said to me after my set that this track was like time travelling."

Top of the pile. 'Flat Rick' comes off 'Anxiety…My Old Friend EP', catalogue NIXW004, out December 2025. Filtrack also appears in her Waveform Sessions mix with 'Toilet Talks', so this is not a one-off enthusiasm.

Lst.ss: "I said pumping bass before and I need to say it again. I love it. This is the perfect basketball pitch sound as a kick for me. I have never had my hips shaking that fast from hearing a track for the first time. I also have a smile on my face every time the first bass comes up.

Every sample that is added comes at the perfect time to give the track new drive, always a little more shaky, a bit more drive and energy. Easy for fader cuts to play around with mids and highs. This track is just fun in every part of your set. You can go lower or harder after it. It has never disappointed."
