Phil Bolland started Cultivated Electronics in 2007, as the UK electro labels he had looked up to were winding their output down: Touchin Bass, SCSI-AV, Satamile. He runs it as Sync 24, promotes Scand in London, and Clone handle the distribution. ERP, DMX Krew, James T Cotton and The Exaltics have all been through, and so have all three of the names remixing this one.
Signal Type is Bolland with Matt Whitehead, and their ‘Future Funked’ opened the label’s very first record. They were on the next two compilations as well. A remix package of ‘Future Funked’ followed in 2010.
‘Breakthrough’ is CE050, the fiftieth record on the main label. Cultivated Electronics are billing it as both a reunion and twenty years of the imprint. They have been through here before, with Umwelt’s ‘Morphing Sequences’ premiere in June 2026 and Kerrie’s ‘Waves of Reverie Part 1’ in May 2026.
Radioactive Man is Keith Tenniswood, who was half of Two Lone Swordsmen with Andrew Weatherall and mixed fabric 08. He started his own Asking For Trouble label in 2017 and opened it with his own album, ‘Luxury Sky Garden’.
Silicon Scally is Carl Finlow, born in Liverpool, who has kept that name for his electro since ‘Electrocide’ in 1998. He also records as Random Factor, and Voice Stealer was the electro name before Silicon Scally took it over.
Morphology are Matti Turunen and Michael Diekmann, working together in Finland since 2009. Diekmann also records as CRC, and Turunen as Näköradiomies. They have been on Cultivated Electronics before with the ‘Mind Stealers EP’, and Turunen has a solo record on the label as well.
You asked for an acidic electro workout, and even if you didn’t you’re getting one anyway because we’ve got the OG track ‘Breakthrough’ here on premiere. You know how it goes; you heard it here first.
Blue marbled vinyl and digital, out on October 12th 2026. The pre-order is up on Clone. Get at it.
