Artist: Ritzi Lee
Title: Momentum Remixes
Label: Symbolism

Surgeon and Troy have each had a go at Momentum, and the results landed on Symbolism at the end of July as a four track techno EP, with two cuts from the original album alongside them. Ritzi Lee, real name Steve Liem, put Momentum out in 2023 as his debut album, which is an odd thing to be able to say about a man with more than twenty years of records behind him.

Liem found techno through Amsterdam nightlife, RoXY and Escape in particular, and got his break by winning a DJ competition run by the Dutch magazine Bassic Groove. That put him on bills at Dance Valley and the FFWD Dance Parade. He started his own Underground Liberation imprint in 2004 and has since turned up on Mord, Klockworks and Suara. He is also a graduate maths student, which may go some way to explaining the Negentropy series he cut for Mord.

The Symbolism link goes back further than this release lets on. Lee first appeared on Ben Sims’ now defunct Theory Recordings in the mid 2000s, so Sims has been putting his records out, on and off, for the best part of twenty years. The EP runs Impact, S-Waves in Surgeon’s hands, Stationary, and Friction reworked by Troy.

Out now on vinyl and digital. Momentum Remixes is up on Bandcamp.
