Krotone works out of Leeds. His first single, ‘Bubbles’, went out on Jelly Bean Farm at the end of 2018, and Resident Advisor reviewed it the following January.

Since then the records have gone out on his own KROTONE label, on Mid:night Cut, Of Paradise, DEXT Recordings, Scuffed Recordings and Shadow System, and in November 2025 he turned up on Om Unit’s ‘Acid Dub Versions III’.

Trench Noir began as a Manchester party before it started putting records out, and ‘System’ is Trench04. We had their second record, Dub Phizix’s ‘Radial’, as our Single of the Week at the end of August 2026.

As we have come to expect from the Trench Noir imprint, heavy bottom end is very much the focus, and Krotone’s ‘System’ is no exception to the rule. The track offers a dubwise take on garage, which definitely pushes it towards dubstep in terms of its sound and feel.

We were a little concerned that the bass was somehow restrained in this production which, given the earth shattering tectonics Trench Noir usually serves up, came as a surprise. That was until we realised we hadn’t switched the sub on, at which point we almost shattered our shin-bones when the sub bass kicked in.
