George Ovens has been Dub Phizix long enough that ‘Marka’ is now a period piece. He made it with Skeptical, Strategy took the vocal, and dBridge’s Exit Records put it out in 2011. You know the one.

‘Radial’ is not a drum and bass record though, which you might be expecting. Nahhh. It is garage, and it arrives on Trench Noir straight outta Manchester.

Trench Noir actually began as a Manchester party and only turned one back in May 2026, with Chimpo among the names on the birthday bill. The label side is newer still, and ‘Radial’ is only its second record.

We always pay attention when a drum and bass producer genre-hops. Generally the results slap pretty hard, and ‘Radial’ is no exception. It might be a garage roller, but it has all the hallmarks of an absolutely disgusting dnb track during the opening bars. Try stopping your chin from swallowing the rest of your head the second that bottom end drops in.

Once that intro has shut you up, Dub Phizix delivers a lesson in some of the tightest dub flecked club music we’ve heard this year. We can’t even describe the synth sound he cracks open at the 1:20 mark but… just listen to it above will you, it’s fucking flame.
