This issue of Ignition Sequence is brought to you in partnership with BC Releases: New Bandcamp Releases in One Playlist
Hoshina Anniversary has the countdown on this one. Daniel Avery and Josh Caffé are in his five, Picture is in there with a record on Short Span, and two of the five have his own name on them.
Ignition Sequence hands the countdown to a guest artist rather than keeping it in house. They choose five records and explain every one of them themselves. We do the digging around the picks, and the opinions are entirely theirs.
Anyway, commencing countdown…
Ignition Sequence #12: Hoshina Anniversary…

Hoshina Anniversary gave his own music a name. He calls it Watechno, and it puts traditional Japanese instrumentation into Chicago and Detroit house and techno. He is on the records himself too, singing in falsetto and playing electric bass.
The labels tell you who rates him. Boysnoize Records has had him twice, ESP Institute put out his double album 'Jomon' in 2021, and MUSAR Recordings keeps having him back.
The titles are nearly all Japanese, and they reach a long way back. 'Jomon' is the prehistoric period before farming reached Japan. 'Hyakunin Isshu' is the classical poetry anthology.
'Sankaku' is his fourth record for MUSAR Recordings, out since 9 October 2026. Dweedo has run MUSAR out of Amsterdam since 2017, and we went through Koloah's 'You Can Get Me' for it.
He is on Instagram, with the music on SoundCloud and Bandcamp.
Here are Hoshina Anniversary's five. Enjoy!
BC Releases: New Bandcamp Releases in One Playlist

All of your new releases in one place.
Bandcamp sends an email for every new release from the artists and labels you follow, which can be overwhelming…
Bas Dobbelaer built a free web app that pulls those new releases into a single playlist. You can listen through everything that came out without opening one email or tab at a time. Waveforms, BPM, and key are included for every track as well.
Label what's worth buying as you listen, and come back to your picks when you're ready to support the artists.
Your data is saved in your browser: imports, triage choices and listening progress are all stored locally, so there's no account needed.
Number 5: Picture 'Quuuuuu'
Picture is an alias of Natal Zaks, who also records as Central and heads up the Danish label Regelbau. 'Quuuuuu' opens 'Uuuuuuuu', which Short Span released in July 2026. Matthew Kent started that label in Sheffield in March 2025. Every title Picture has given it is a stretched out vowel sound, and 'Eeeeeeee' came before this one.
Hoshina Anniversary: "I love tracks with minimal and dub elements like this, and I sometimes make them as demos myself. I like to keep these kinds of tracks stocked up so I can drop them whenever the timing feels right."
Short Span have 'Uuuuuuuu' on Bandcamp.
Number 4: Daniel Avery 'Satisfied'
'Satisfied' is one half of 'Lemon / Satisfied', and that is the record Delta Park opened its catalogue with in July 2026. Daniel Avery has been through here before: we took apart the DJ Stingray 313 remix of 'Greasy Off the Racing Line', off his album 'Tremor'.
Hoshina Anniversary: "Since I often make tracks around 135 to 140 BPM lately, his approach is really insightful for me. His tracks are always cool. Even when they reach a frenzy, they remain fashionable and keep a certain rock spirit, which I love about his work."
Both sides are at Bandcamp.
Number 3: Josh Caffé 'Never Again'
You have almost certainly heard Josh Caffé without going looking for him. He sings on other people's records, and Paranoid London, Posthuman and Honey Dijon have all had him on theirs. He also runs Love Child, the monthly LGBTQ+ party at fabric. 'Never Again' comes off 'The Velvet Hour', which is his first record for dh2. Olof Dreijer of The Knife is on that label too.
Hoshina Anniversary: "I feel like the tracks he makes fit into so many different moments, and I'm a big fan. This one is at 135 BPM with his fantastic vocals, and it has that great energy that keeps you dancing endlessly."
'The Velvet Hour' is up on Bandcamp.
Number 2: Hoshina Anniversary 'Kanade (130BPM Remix)'
Hoshina Anniversary remixed his own album and named every version after the tempo he took it to. The album is 'Rebirth', out in September 2025. The remixes landed in February 2026 on Perish, the label he set up for his own music.
Hoshina Anniversary: "This is a self-remix of my own track, and I really like it because it's so versatile in my DJ sets. Lena Willikens and Elena Colombi have played it too, and I feel like it has the potential to fit seamlessly into all kinds of set builds."
Clamp onto the remixes at Bandcamp.
Number 1: Hoshina Anniversary 'Kono Kanjitte'
Top of the list is a track off his own EP. 'Sankaku' has been out on MUSAR Recordings since 9 October 2026, and the title is the Japanese word for triangle. The others are named the same way: 'Tsuppari' is the rapid hand thrust used in sumo, and 'Ariake' is a sea.
Hoshina Anniversary: "When listening to this track at home, it feels somewhat acid and relaxed, with my Japanese vocals resonating through it. But once you play it on the dance floor, it really gets the crowd hyped. I played it when I had a gig in Amsterdam 4 years ago, and the crowd went crazy. It managed to create a very fascinating, unique sense of strangeness."
Get your hands on 'Sankaku' via Bandcamp.
That's the five
Thanks to Hoshina Anniversary for the five, and for being straight about the fact that two of them are his.
