  • Byte-sized info-morsels in our weekly Data Packets newsflash.

  • We’re on an altogether housier tip this week, with the latest audio sensations from apaull, ProOne79 & MAGNVM!, and Silicone Soul, in Peak Oscillations.

  • An exclusive electro mix from The Machine in our Waveform Sessions mix; the second in the series.

  • A Eurorack full of forthcoming hardware events in our Hardware Signal section.

  • Insert knowledge into your brains thanks to Filter Dread in the new Machine Learning section, featuring an ebook recommendation each week.

Data Packets

  • In a move that has no bearing on how much they pay artists on their platform, Spotify has introduced a new feature to protect said underpaid artists. The tool enables musicians to approve tracks posted to their official Spotify profiles in a bid to prevent illicit AI generated music uploads. Just use Bandcamp to support your artists instead. Especially on a Friday.

  • Sónar Barcelona finalized its 2026 lineup by adding 65 new acts including The Prodigy, SBTRKT, and a STOOR live hardware takeover led by Speedy J. The festival also confirmed a major shift to an "all-in-one" format at Fira Gran Via, where day and night programming will occur at the same venue for the first time.

Peak Oscillations

We’ve been tweaking our audio receivers consistently since issue three, in a bid to uncover a trio of releases worthy of our coveted weekly positions.

Dial in…

Single of the Week: apaull Push the Button

Dutch-Canadian beat-smith apaull lands on his own Furnace Room Records with Push the Button. Taken from his new LP Gun Factor (released in April), the single comes backed by a robust rework from Junior Sanchez on the flip.

There’s a distinct echo of Nightworks-era Layo & Bushwacka in apaull’s original cut. It’s the kind of production that sits equally comfortably between such early-noughties classics and the forward-thinking releases of today.

Following a deliberate one-minute build of heavily processed string stabs and atmospheric swells, a crisp breakbeat bubbles to the surface to shift the gears. From there, we’re dropped into an infectious 4/4 groove driven by unpredictable, arpeggiated robo-bleeps.

Junior Sanchez reimagines the track with tribal-inflected, funk-heavy percussion. It’s an essential tool for any set, perfectly designed to turn the room from ‘warm’ to ‘sweaty’ as the energy builds.

EP of the Week: ProOne79 & MAGNVM! Black Jack EP

Italy’s ProOne79 and MAGNVM! deliver a trifecta of jacking cuts on the aptly titled Black Jack EP. This three-tracker has just landed on Berlin’s Rekids and is more than ready to add some Chi-town-style flex to the dancefloor.

Nobody Else leads the pack with the kind of heavy-hitting house the Rekids imprint has become synonymous with. A pulsing, oscillating bassline drives a swinging, loopy drum pattern. The moment those claps land, the energy is undeniable.

The 808-style toms set a frantic tone for the outrageous Feel Free. Expect instant whiplash the second that car-alarm synth stab hits, followed by a bassline that only gets grittier as the track develops. It is a peak-time essential and easily the track we are most excited to drop into a set.

The restless Back rounds out the trio, shifting gears from the high-octane energy of the preceding two heaters. Dark and moody, an undulating bassline scowls from the low end while a hypnotic vocal motif plays throughout.

A snarling, electro-style synth rips through the mix to lead into a second slow-burn build-up. It is a high-pressure production, perfectly suited for the darker, more intense moments in the club.

Every headline satisfies an opinion. Except ours.

Remember when the news was about what happened, not how to feel about it? 1440's Daily Digest is bringing that back. Every morning, they sift through 100+ sources to deliver a concise, unbiased briefing — no pundits, no paywalls, no politics. Just the facts, all in five minutes. For free.

Album of the week: Silicone Soul Tales from the Underground II

Silicone Soul returns this week with a new LP on the Darkroom Dubs imprint. Tales from the Underground II is an essential compilation, gathering a selection of previously vinyl-only mixes into one cohesive package.

Bursting with tropical hedonism, album opener The Guitar Track builds layers of euphoria until a final crescendo of bongo-led percussion sparks a true dancefloor frenzy. Originally conceived alongside the classic Right On, Right On, the track shares the same sense of dynamism and infectious movement that defined that era of Silicone Soul’s output.

The Darkroom Dub of Devil Drives follows, pairing a recognizable descending bassline with atmospheric pads and trumpet from Scottish musician Tom MacNiven. It also leans heavily into the cowbell, and as the saying we invented this second goes, nobody ever argued with a well-placed cowbell.

The DJ Loutka collaboration, Second, dims the lights and shifts the mood. First heard on Silicone Soul’s debut BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, this is nine minutes of mesmerizing progressive house that waits until the five-minute mark to unleash its bassline; a masterclass in mood-building.

Moving into the second half of the record, Autotelic sees a team-up with Hidden Fortress. The result is a brooding house cut loaded with a dark, driving energy.

Back 2 tha Playground arrives next, a psychedelic house excursion recorded under the duo's Astrocats guise. It is an ideal track for an outdoor session, complete with even more percussive cowbell flair!

Closing the collection is the deeply dubbed-out Labyrinth Dub. Its laid-back house groove and dubwise undertones provide a perfect, chilled resolution to this journey through the Soul's history.

While some compilations can feel like a lazy retrospective, this collection feels vital. Listening to these tracks is like stepping back 20-25 years to the dancefloors of Chibuku and Circus in Liverpool. The sense of nostalgia is undeniable, capturing the unique essence of that early 2000s house sound perfectly.
