The UK’s Criminal Justice and Public Order Act of 1994 is one of those pieces of legislation that tells you everything about the relationship between the establishment and underground culture. For Speedy (aka Speej), who spent the late nineties and early 2000s deep in the Midlands free party scene as part of a wider DJ collective, those pressures were lived rather than merely read about.

Three decades on, he remains every bit as committed to the music that shaped him. He remains committed to the counter-culture ethos too, holding a residency at Waveform’s own Brain Drip parties; small capacity, free to attend events designed to fly in the face of exorbitant ticketing policies at today’s big draw club nights.

For his Waveform Sessions debut, Speedy dedicates an entire hour to V Recordings; the label Bryan Gee and Jumpin Jack Frost founded in 1993 that went on to break Roni Size, Krust, DJ Die, Dillinja, and DJ Marky to the world, and whose sublabels Liquid V, Philly Blunt, and Chronic continue to push the drum and bass sound in every direction imaginable.
