TOKiMONSTA is Jennifer Lee, and she came up through the Los Angeles beat scene with an early co sign from Flying Lotus and Brainfeeder. She started Young Art Records in 2014 and has run it since.
In the autumn of 2015 she was diagnosed with moyamoya, a condition that narrows the arteries feeding the brain, and she had two operations in January 2016. Afterwards she had to relearn how to speak and type, and music went too: for a stretch she could not follow or make any. She got it back, and the album that came out of it, 'Lune Rouge', took her to a Grammy nomination.
Her most recent album is 'Eternal Reverie', which the label says became a tribute to her best friend after she died. 'Memory On The Run' is the follow up single, out on Young Art on 7 August, with Lee on vocals.
