Salsa, cumbia and Caribbean percussion are not the standard reference points for a techno record, but they are T.A.M's.

Colombian born and based, he works folkloric rhythms from his own backyard into hardgroove, an approach that produced 14 Techno Cañonazos Bailables, Vol. 1 on The Acid Mind Recordings, its title tipping a hat to the compilation series that has been soundtracking Colombian dancefloors since the sixties. He has also turned up on Tzunami Waves Vol. 3 alongside Anteac, Lucyd and Truant.

WHIPBASS is familiar ground. La Danza Del Quantum went out through the Berlin label previously, and the imprint has been running since March 2018 under Corinna Zoch, who spent years as label manager at VANDIT Records and later as a Senior Director at BMG before starting it.

The name comes from ‘Technopeitsche’, the label's own coinage for the whip-crack moment when the bass lands and the night properly kicks off. Argy, Asem Shama, MSDMNR, Rog de Prisco, Cherryphonic and PRYDIE have all passed through the catalogue.

Subsurface Selections

The best releases in UKG, Bass, Breaks, Dub & 140. Every Friday. No filler.

The 16D EP runs to two tracks, and we have both of them. First up is Dalequetupuedada; a kinetic hardgroove-style roller loaded with peak time energy. There’s a lovely little breakdown of chainsaw-like chugs at the 1:20 mark before the track really breaks out into full propulsion. The mid-point build-up is sublimely tense. Interesting use of a haunting operatic vocal, too.

On the flip we have Disproportionate; a name befitting a track that is disproportionately energetic to the point of hyperactivity. This is a fully-groove laden little belter for pulling the dancefloor into a completely different plane of hypnotic existence.

Listen up above, before anyone else.
