Mia Moretti runs Spaghetti Moretti Records out of Los Angeles, and ‘backseat baby’ has been in circulation since 10 July, the second single lifted from her ‘GET READY!’ EP.

Uffie takes the vocal, and that name carries weight of its own: Anna-Catherine Hartley arrived on Ed Banger in 2006 with ‘Pop the Glock’, produced by Feadz, and her album ‘Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans’ followed through Ed Banger and Because Music in June 2010.

Remix duty goes to Spatial Awareness, who grew up on Canvey Island with two DJs for older brothers and now works out of Southend-on-Sea. His own records and his reworks have gone out through Anja Schneider’s Sous Music, where the ‘The Day That God Went Mad’ EP arrived in the summer of 2021, plus Twirl, HE.SHE.THEY., Wall of Sound, Batty Bass, Zombie Soundsystem and Fetch.

The XR2 package is filed as SPAG016 and carries his remixes alongside a radio edit and an instrumental. It went up as a Beatport exclusive first, with the general release following on Friday 21 August.

The pack is very much representative of all the artists involved, here. Moretti and Uffie obviously give the original and, by extension the remixes, a certain electro-pop verve, while Spatial Awareness drops the acid house treatment that has made him such an in-demand producer of late, and his Hottwerk imprint such a place to be seen right now.

The XR2 Remix is loaded with energy as the 303 takes hold alongside swinging 4/4 percs. Beep, beep, we could take it to the back seat indeed! We also get a radio edit and an instrumental version of the track.

The Classic Vee remix wraps the track in a retro rave haze; check out that organ casually heralding the apocalypse. This is probably our favourite cut on the record; a healthy dose of euphoria alongside some properly disgusting acid. Shut up and dance, you!

Get it now on Beatport. Ooooph.
