Mike Morrisey is Manchester born and bred, and he runs two labels out of the city, Libero and Zest. This is his seventh release of 2026, after records on both of those, on Metamorfosi and on Grood Taste.

Of Unsound Mind is Skream’s label. He started it in 2014, a few months after closing Disfigured Dubz, and handed the first record to Motions. ‘About U’ is OFUNSOUNDMIND124, three tracks, and it is out now.

Morrisey built the EP around a set of old samples he had been meaning to get back to for years, one of which is the record that introduced him to house music over a decade ago.

That is fairly obvious once the first track, ‘About U’, drops its first thumping kick and that arpeggiating bassline starts doing its work. Morrisey layers more percussive elements, introducing a vocal snippet that repeats the track title occasionally. A masterclass in restraint, as the track never feels busy yet still bubbles with late night energy.

‘Rhythm Train’ is a bumpy little number guaranteed to get the shoulders winding. A lovely breakdown around the 1:30 mark blooms into a funky drop that demonstrates exactly what a minimal track can do with, well, minimal tools. Nice little acid line in this one and some quirky droplet sounds and house whistles to give things a leftfield flavour.

This takes us into the third and final track on the EP, ‘Acid Feel’. This one opens with a definite Latin feel to it thanks to the hand percussion Morrisey opens the track with. This builds the energy until the acid line adds extra zing to the collection’s parting shot.
