Some collaborations take a while to arrive. Joginda and Daniel, working as Black Cadmium and Hive Mind, have known each other for the best part of their lives and have been circling the same music the whole time.

Joginda runs GLXY Recs and has already put out Hive Mind material on it, including God Particle and a cut on 2023's Deindividuation EP, but the two had never actually produced together until they booked a studio session and found out what happened. Emergence EP is the result, arriving on Rotterdam's P-RT-L Music.

Now, the EP might well be on a Rotterdam imprint, but it definitely has a touch of the motor city to it. That futuristic, sci-fi sound courses through the veins of this EP, all four tracks adopting that familiar Detroit sonic signature.

The collection launches with the bubbly spree that is Anamnesis. Definition-wise, this means 'to recall a previous existence', which perhaps lends itself to sound representing the journey through dimensions that our mind makes as it moves between the present and the past.

Rhythms align with surgical precision in Entrainment, next. Those chilling string pads really set the atmosphere, while minimal percussive elements and a frantic acid line layer on top of one another in perfect synchronicity.

We become one with the techno superorganism next as Noosphere whisks us off our feet. This is a high NRG production with a fantastic, acid swilled drop at the midpoint, primed for peak dancefloor meltdown at the rave.

We round out on the minimal techno of Volition. While it may be skeletal in terms of its sonic components, one thing about minimal techno is its ability to prove that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. An energetic, yet refined end to proceedings.
