Dise is a new alias, and the label isn’t letting slip whose. We have our suspicions. We cannot stand them up, so they stay off the page and the record does the talking on its own.

What the label will say is that Dise was born in the borderlands around El Paso and works out of the San Fernando Valley, and that the work runs across mixed media as well as DJing and production. The press release calls ‘Arcadia’ a journey toward a safe place within the mind.

‘Arcadia’ is the only thing on the Dise Bandcamp, so there is no back catalogue to hold it up against and no reputation doing any of the lifting. Anonymity is usually a marketing move. This time it is closer to a blank page.

The label is New Earth Sound, based in Los Angeles, with a catalogue that starts in February 2024 and a roster of Woodseye, Frythm, Take My Lungs and djD3o. Lowdoses is on there too, working out of El Paso, so this is not the first thread the label has running back to the border.

The track follows a dark-edged future garage formula, with its rolling garage percs and smooth pads. The second that warping bassline hits you’ll know exactly why we picked this one for our single of the week. Definitely a late night vibe; there’s a lovely, moody second half in stall for you with this production.
