Asymptote is the duo of Gabriele Ruggiero and Corrado Viggiano, more than fifteen years into it now, and they run Suburban Avenue out of Rome.
They founded Resistance Is Techno as well, which they call one of the city's most established underground techno nights, and they hold the residency there. The guest list runs to Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Luke Slater, Oscar Mulero, Speedy J, Blawan, Nina Kraviz and Rødhåd. They shared a bill with Mills at Circolo degli Illuminati in October 2024.
Their own records make up much of its catalogue. 'Belief System' carried an Oscar Mulero remix, 'Behind The Scene' came back as a remix package from Psyk, Reeko, Tripeo and 3KZ, and 'Too Blind To See', 'Illusion Of Control', 'Liquid Love', 'Acid Pulse' and 'Order - Disorder' all sit there too. They have shared records with labelmates as well, 'Inlandsis' with Zadig and 'Sublunar' with Z.I.P.P.O.
That Mulero remix is not a small thing to have on your own label. He has been a fixture in Madrid since the late eighties, when he was playing clubs called New World and Overdrive, and he opened The Omen there in 1994. Sónar booked him in 1996. He has run Warm Up Recordings since 2000 and started PoleGroup a few years after that, and both are past a hundred releases. He has an EP of his own on Suburban Avenue as well, 'Mannequin'.
The label's mix series takes its name from that party. Asymptote handled 'The Resistance Vol. I', Z.I.P.P.O took the second and Mattia Trani the third, and there is a various-artists record in the catalogue called 'The Italian Resistance - music against the virus'. Away from home the duo's tracks turn up on compilations from Adroit Recordings, Deep Space Helsinki, Nothing But..., Mitten Records and Fides.
'Le Cercle Rouge' is the first record on Liminal Destinations, and that label belongs to Asymptote. They have set it up for techno and experimental electronic music across vinyl and digital, with room for unreleased material and collaborative projects.
They want photographers, visual artists and 3D designers working alongside the music. Five tracks open the label’s account. The promo is laid out A1 to B3 like a record, though Bandcamp has it as a digital release for now.
