Glasgow’s Fear-E returns with Descent Into Ascension (Snapshots Of A Mental State) on his own Posh End Music label. Recorded during a challenging personal period, the album is a deep, often dark exploration of techno that reflects that headspace while maintaining the high-level production we’ve come to expect from him.
It starts with a bit of a curveball. Opener Loopy Fiasco is a disco-influenced workout, complete with high-energy claps and a rock-solid house kick. It’s a perfect peak-time track, but it definitely feels like it’s lulling you into a false sense of security before the tone shifts.
That lightness fades quickly as Doom Merchants takes over. It’s a dark, brooding piece defined by Detroit-style rave stabs that punch through the mix.

This sense of tension continues into Aces High, which hits with sharp, waspish saw-wave synths and a rattling percussive drive. The acidic breakdown here is a real highlight—it’s got a grit to it that brings to mind the classic sound of LFO’s Freak.
The OK Express brings a heavy dose of 303 energy over a driving electro beat. A stuttering vocal sample adds to the disorienting feel of the lead line, leading perfectly into the gritty techno focus of McCarthy.
The energy stays high as we head back toward Detroit with the hectic Escape Room. It’s a hyperactive, relentless track where crisp claps and a sizzling top end are backed by a heavy, pounding kick. It’s the kind of high-velocity production that genuinely catches you off guard with its sheer intensity.
The album shows no signs of slowing down as it reaches the finish line. Ground Control and Otherworldly ensure the record closes with just as much momentum as it started. It’s an excellent, deeply personal LP from one of the UK’s most accomplished producers.
